Artemis

A network assessment framework that supports data enhancement as well as analysis and visualization.

Artemis is a network assessment framework

Artemis helps you create and evaluate one or more networks, and assess their nature, features, change and determinants. It works with many kinds of networks, including social, activity, task, knowledge, supply chain and communication networks, and adds machine learning that enhances social media data as it is imported.

Questions Artemis helps answer

  • Who and what is critical? Find the people, resources and connections a network depends on.
  • Are there groups of interest? Detect existing and emerging groups and patterns.
  • How is the network changing? Track change over time and what drives it.
  • How might interventions impact the network? Explore what happens when parts of a network are changed or removed.
  • Who is behind the posts? Separate likely bots, news sources and trolls from other accounts, and flag hate speech.

More about Artemis

Inside Artemis

How Artemis extends ORA for social media and network assessment, based on the Artemis User’s Guide 2026.

Built on ORA and NetMapper

Artemis combines previously separate tools. ORA provides all data importing and network analysis, NetMapper is integrated for text mining, and the new Huntresses add language models that make predictions on the data you import. Everything you know about ORA and NetMapper still applies.

The Huntresses

  • Bot Huntress scores how likely each post is to come from a bot and flags likely bot accounts.
  • News Detector scores how likely each post is to be spreading news and flags likely news sources.
  • Troll Hunter scores how likely each post and account is to be a troll.
  • Hate speech detection scores how likely each post is to use hate speech.

CUES from every message

Artemis can run NetMapper on each message to compute up to 142 CUES: emotion, sentiment and affect, moral values, framing, identity and violent language, punctuation and emoji use, and BEND maneuvers. CUES power the BEND & Community Assessment report and feed Troll Hunter and hate speech detection.

Social media data

  • X (formerly Twitter), API V1 and V2 data: bots, news sources, CUES, trolls and hate speech.
  • Telegram: bots and news sources.
  • Every other data source ORA imports, with exactly the same import process when the extra options are off.

Results you can work with

Scores are added to your data as attributes on accounts and posts, ready for ORA’s measures, reports, visualizers and measure charts. Accounts are flagged as likely bots, news sources or trolls when their average score passes a set threshold.

Versions

  • Artemis-Trial: full-featured but time-limited, for research and teaching.
  • Artemis: unrestricted, for commercial users and academics.
